Berks County WIOA, Business Services and EARN Programs

The Berks County Business Services Program began in 2005 to market CareerLink® services to local employers. The staff of the Business Services program acts as a liaison between the business community and the One-Stop, the Pennsylvania CareerLink® Berks County. Program services include:

  • Creation and maintenance of business folders and job postings on the Commonwealth Workforce Development System (CWDS)
  • CWDS website technical assistance
  • Screening and referral of applicants to employer specifications
  • Development of On-the-Job Training (OJT) opportunities
  • Information on tax credits
  • Specialized recruitment
  • Labor market information
  • Training provider information
  • WIOA Placement Services
  • WorkKeys® functional and personal skill assessments
  • WorkKeys® profiling

EDSI began operating the Berks Employment, Advancement and Retention Network (EARN) Program in 2006. It is funded by the Berks County Workforce Investment Board. The EARN program provides services to individuals who are applying for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits, as well as individuals who are already receiving TANF benefits. Five percent of the population are Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients. Through progressive stages, participants who attend the EARN program will:

  • Learn soft skills
  • Increase computer knowledge
  • Build a strong resume
  • Understand how to utilize the Internet and social networking for work search
  • Develop skills required for obtaining and retaining employment
  • Receive support to retain employment

The ultimate goal of the program is self-sufficiency.
